Actually, swimming and aquatics classes are great ways to add variety, and fun, to your exercise program Just click here for ways to incorporate these activities into your daily fitness routine. In: One container of Ben and Jerry’s Peanut Butter Cup ice cream has 1,360 calories and 96 grams of fat (46 grams saturated fat). You know the container I’m talking about, that little one - the one with four servings in it! Out: Two hours and 30 minutes: That is how long the average 150-pound person would have to do pushups in order to burn those 1,360 calories. Wow and ouch! FITNESS Confidence - It’s Truly Powerful It’s amazing what being physically active will do, not only for your body, but for your sense of self-confidence as well. For example, I ride a motorcycle. Riding a motorcycle is something I have always wanted to do. I don’t mean to ride as a passenger; but as the driver; the one in control of the bike and the road it’s going to take. I actually tried to learn how to ride a motorcycle several years ago with absolutely no success. Unsure of myself I thought it was too hard, and I just could not get it. Therefore, I gave up and continued to wish I could ride a motorcycle all by myself, all the while riding on the back of my husband’s bike. How does riding a motorcycle fit in with being physically active? Here’s how: Last year, my friend Linda convinced me that I could walk 20 miles three days in a row to raise funds for breast cancer research. In May, after our first training walk, about 8 miles or so, I wasn’t so sure I could walk the 60 miles required for the Cleveland Breast Cancer 3-Day. All through June, July and the beginning of August we trained. I cannot remember now, how many weekend mornings Linda and I got together at 5:00 a.m. to walk the 10 or more miles we needed to cover in order to be physically ready for the big event. Nevertheless, we did it and I got so much more out of the experience than just being fit enough to finish the 3-Day without any major blisters, fatigue, or injury. One of the most important things I got from preparing for, and participating in, the event was the tremendous sense of self-confidence. I now know I can walk 60 miles in three days. I have the confidence to know I can do anything if I choose to, including learning how to ride a motorcycle. The same thing can happen for you as well. When you choose to live a healthier lifestyle, one of the first things you must do is to become more physically active. By this, I mean find any activity that you enjoy that will keep you moving at a moderate pace for at least 30 minutes a day. Think back to when you where a kid, what did you like to do? It can be anything, such as bicycling, walking, jogging, hiking, or ballroom dancing. One of the first steps towards a healthier and happier you is to make the choice to become more active, and the second is to learn how to do it properly. Once you choose to become more physically active, you will be amazed to discover all of the other choices you get to make along the way because you will be fit enough, and confident enough, to do just about anything!
